300% projected rise in hair loss patients since 2020 in Goa: Dr. Akshay Batra
PANAJI: The current trend of hair loss has surged from 6.4 lakh persons in 2020 to a projected 22 lakh in 2024, and in Goa, it has shot up from nearly 3000 to around 9000, a 300% increase, said Dr. Akshay Batra, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Dr Batra’s Healthcare.
He said that stress and lifestyle habits like diet are major contributors to hair loss.
He was speaking at a press conference in Panaji on Tuesday after unveiling the company’s revolutionary treatment XOGEN – India’s first and world’s most advanced exosome-based targeted hair treatment, designed to combat hereditary hair loss in men and women.
Also present were Dr. Mukesh Batra, Founder, Dr Batra’s Healthcare and Chief marketing officer Siddarth Bajaj.
Dr. Akshay said that the mean age for hair loss today is 21 years. “Young India is going bald, with people in their early 20’s and late teens reporting hair loss. 50% of men report hereditary hair loss. Male pattern baldness is the leading cause of hair fall in men. Stress and lifestyle like smoking and vaping are the other major causes. In my clinical practice, I found that 30-40% of Indian women lose hair due to low iron levels. Thyroid-related ailments constitute 20% of hair loss patient women. 1 in 5 in women suffer from PCOD and this gives rise to hair loss as well,” he said.
Dr. Akshay said that the company’s new product Xogen treats all types of hair loss, including hereditary.
To date, there is no treatment for hereditary hair loss in the world, which is the largest segment of hair loss in India, he said.
“Xogen is very effective for hereditary hair loss. The Technology of treatment is very different as it is targeted and precise. It is easy to administer and effective. There is no wastage of medicine as it penetrates up to the follicle and revives damaged and dying cells. There are no side effects, and the treatment is painless, with no injections, needles or pricking of the scalp,” he said.
Dr. Akshay said that each sitting takes 30-45 minutes, with patients requiring treatment every 15 days, twice a month. The recommended number of sessions for treatment ranges between 10 and 20, depending on the extent of the hair loss and the patient’s age. The treatment is two-pronged, with the first part being aesthetic and the other homeopathy for a long-lasting effect, he said.
“At Rs 6000 per session, Xogen treatment is affordable compared to hair transplants. Also, Xogen can help get natural hair growth without damaging hair through treatments like transplants,” he added.
