23 November 2025: 56th IFFI is showcasing a rich bouquet of India’s regional cinema, out of which, teams of two regional films — Piranthanaal Vazhthukal (Tamil) and Drushya Adrushya (Marathi), interacted with the media today.

Director Raju Chandra, while sharing his experience of creating the Tamil film Piranthanaal Vazhthukal, emphasized that filmmaking rooted in local cultural traditions requires encouragement not only from its own community but also from other cultural groups. He stated that “Cultural acceptance, commitment to the film, and teamwork are the key ingredients of a successful regional film.” Lead actor Appukutti also joined him at the Press Conference.

Speaking about the Marathi film Drushya Adrushya, Director Milind Lele said the gripping suspense thriller was shot at an isolated resort with a compact crew of just 8–10 members. Despite limited resources, the dedication of each team member made the film possible.

The film is set for release in January. Responding to a question on how a small-budget film can survive among big-banner releases, Lele remarked, “Every film comes with its own kundali. Ultimately, the audience decides the journey of a film. Regional films can perform exceptionally well if they are strong in story, direction, and acting — it is all about teamwork.” In crowd of big banner films, now regional cinema needs not only to be good, but very good, He added. He emphasised that regional cinema represents the true cultural essence of its people and their traditions.

Synopsis: Drushya Adrushya

“Drushya Adrushya” is a gripping tale set against the serene yet mysterious backdrop of a picnic spot, where a young girl’s sudden disappearance triggers a series of unsettling events. The film delves deep into human emotions, societal complexities, between the visible and invisible forces that influence lives. The narrative unfolds through the perspectives of the girl’s family, local authorities, and bystanders, each grappling with fear, uncertainty, and hidden truths. As tensions escalate and secrets surface, the story evolves into a powerful exploration of faith, fear, and reality. Blending raw realism with emotional intensity, the film reveals how unseen psychological, societal, and spiritual forces drive human actions and decisions.

Synopsis: Piranthanaal Vazhthukal (Tamil)

Anpu (Appukutty), who leads the group of young men in the village, are heavy drinkers and smokers. His wife, family friends, and the villagers opposed his lifestyle and forced him to stop excessive drinking. His wife is pregnant and about to give birth. Anpu holds the belief that alcohol is the only source of enjoyment in life. He lives irresponsibly, following his own whims without regard for consequences. One day, his life took an expected turn, and he witnessed how society perceived him, his social responsibilities, and the value of life. This movie stars National Award Winner Appukutty, holds an invaluable place amount movies. “The Hero amazes us by making us laugh, shedding few tears and prompting deep thought”.
