Porvorim, Goa | June 05, 2026: “Promises made, and promises kept.” In a significant step towards strengthening community infrastructure and promoting sports and recreational activities in Porvorim, Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and Hon’ble Minister for Tourism Rohan Khaunte, inaugurated the much-awaited Porvorim Gymkhana, a landmark facility envisioned as a vibrant hub for sports, fitness, youth engagement, and community interaction.
The inauguration was held in the august presence of Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha); Michael Lobo, Chairman of the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), along with other dignitaries.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by local residents, sports enthusiasts, representatives from sports associations, community leaders, government officials and members of various resident welfare groups.

The Porvorim Gymkhana was conceptualised as a multi-purpose community space designed to cater to the growing recreational and sporting needs of the constituency. Today, it is built across a 4,500 square meter footprint, housing a swimming pool, badminton courts, and indoor/outdoor sporting arenas to serve local youth and neighbouring villages. Equipped with modern amenities and facilities, the Gymkhana aims to encourage active lifestyles, nurture sporting talent and foster greater community participation across age groups.
Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble Tourism Minister and MLA of Porvorim, Shri. Rohan A. Khaunte said, “The inauguration of the Porvorim Gymkhana is not merely the opening of a facility, but the culmination of a vision to create inclusive spaces that bring communities together. Over the years, our focus in Porvorim has been on building infrastructure that enhances the quality of life while creating opportunities for youth, families and senior citizens alike. This Gymkhana reflects our commitment towards holistic development, community well-being and nurturing the sporting spirit of our people.”
He further highlighted that the Gymkhana forms part of the broader Porvorim Development Model, which has prioritised planned infrastructure, public amenities, sports facilities, environmental sustainability and citizen-centric development. The facility is expected to serve as a venue for sporting events, fitness programmes, cultural activities, community gatherings and youth development initiatives, further strengthening Porvorim’s position as one of Goa’s most progressive and well-planned constituencies.
Residents welcomed the inauguration, noting that the Gymkhana addresses a long-standing need for dedicated recreational and sporting infrastructure within the constituency. The project is another addition to a series of developmental initiatives undertaken in Porvorim over the years, including improvements in mobility infrastructure, waste management systems, public spaces, sports facilities and community-focused amenities aimed at enhancing the overall quality of life for residents.
As Goa continues its journey towards inclusive and regenerative development, the Porvorim Gymkhana stands as a testament to the importance of investing in community infrastructure that promotes health, social cohesion and opportunities for future generations.
