Porvorim, September 8, 2026: The Foundation stone for Mudder Ground, Socorro, Porvorim, was laid on Tuesday, marking an important step towards strengthening sports infrastructure, for the skilling of youth, creating newer opportunities for them to pursue sports and achieve greater heights.
The foundation stone was laid by Hon’ble Minister for Sports Shri Ramesh Tawadkar along with Hon’ble Minister of Tourism & Porvorim MLA Shri Rohan A. Khaunte.
Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble Minister of Tourism & Porvorim MLA Shri Rohan A. Khaunte said, “Today will be written in golden words in the history of Porvorim. It is a step towards building sports facilities here. This land has produced some of the finest sportspersons. The development of this sports facility is another important step in strengthening that legacy and creating better opportunities for our young players. This facility will contribute to our vision of a Fit Porvorim, a Fit Goa and, ultimately, a Fit India.”
Hon’ble Minister for Sports Shri Dr. Ramesh Tawadkar said, “Our responsibility is not just to build sports facilities, but to ensure that they become active spaces for our youth. The focus now must be on promoting sports at the grassroots level, creating awareness among our youth and encouraging them to make full use of these facilities, develop their skills and aspire to excel at higher levels. Only when our facilities are actively utilised can we truly build a stronger sporting culture in Goa.”
The development of the Mudder Ground fulfils one of the key commitments made by Porvorim MLA Shri Rohan A. Khaunte in his manifesto to provide the people of Porvorim with a dedicated cricket ground. This project reflects the broader vision of a Viksit Bharat, built on four key pillars, Women, Youth, Farmers and the underprivileged, with a focus on empowering people through opportunities for growth and development. By investing in grassroots sports infrastructure, the project gives Yuva a platform to build skills, nurture talent and contribute to the progress of a stronger and more empowered India.
