Festive Season Health Advisory: Star Health Urges Goa Residents to Stay Cautious Amid Seasonal Infections

Panaji, September, 2026: As Goa prepares for the upcoming festive and holiday season, marked by increased travel, social gatherings and movement across the state, Star Health and Allied Insurance Company Limited is urging individuals and families to remain mindful of seasonal health risks and take simple precautions to protect themselves and their loved ones.

While the current situation does not warrant alarm, recent surveillance highlights the importance of continued awareness. According to data cited by the Directorate of Health Services, Goa, influenza-positive cases increased from 6 in June to 44 in July and 73 as of August 20, 2026.

Dengue activity has also been reported during the monsoon period. South Goa District Hospital recorded 71 dengue-positive cases in the first 10 days of August, compared with 91 cases during the entire month of July. The hospital had reported 39 positive cases in June and nine in May.

With increased travel, gatherings and outdoor activity expected during the festive period, these trends underline the importance of maintaining basic precautions. Fever, cough, sore throat, headache, body ache, fatigue, vomiting or other persistent or worsening symptoms should not be ignored, particularly among children, senior citizens, pregnant women and individuals with underlying health conditions.

Commenting on the situation, Dr. Abhijeet Ghosh, Chief Claims Officer, Star Health Insurance, said:
“The festive season is a time when families and communities come together, and with increased travel and social interaction, it is important to remain mindful of seasonal health risks. There is no need for alarm, but simple precautions such as maintaining hand and respiratory hygiene, staying hydrated, ensuring safe food and drinking water, and protecting against mosquito bites can go a long way in reducing the risk of infections. Individuals should also pay attention to persistent or worsening symptoms and seek medical advice at the right time rather than self-medicating.”

“Prevention is particularly important during periods of increased movement and social interaction. Families can reduce their risk by maintaining clean surroundings, eliminating stagnant water, using appropriate mosquito protection and following good hygiene practices. At Star Health, we believe health awareness is an important part of prevention, and we remain committed to making reliable health information more accessible to individuals and families.”

The Goa Health Department continues to undertake source-reduction drives, house-to-house visits to check mosquito breeding sites, fever surveillance and community awareness activities as part of its vector-borne disease prevention efforts.

Preventive healthcare and community awareness remain an important part of Star Health’s engagement with communities. Through health-awareness camps, webinars, health check-ups and outreach initiatives, the company works to make information around seasonal health risks, early symptom recognition and timely medical consultation more accessible.
Through these efforts, Star Health aims to support communities beyond insurance by encouraging prevention, early recognition and informed healthcare decisions, particularly during periods of increased travel and social interaction.
