The initiative was formally launched on Thursday, November 27, 2025.

The launch ceremony was inaugurated by His Holiness, Paramapoojya Shreemad Vidyadheesh Teerth Shreepad Vader Swamiji, along with Shri Rohan Khaunte, Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Tourism and Printing & Stationary, Dr Chandrakhant Shetye, Chairman, Infotech Corporation of Goa Ltd (ITG), Shri Kabir Shirgaonkar, Director, DITE&C, Shri Praveen Volvotkar, Managing Director, ITG and Shri Shrinivas Shenvi Dempo, President, Central Committee & Sardha Panchashatamanotsava Committee.

While Canacona already had 5G mobile networks from Jio and BSNL, digital infrastructure has been boosted by adding a new operator- Airtel (Indus Towers) around the Math premises to further enhance mobile connectivity, benefitting the wider community as the area evolves into a spiritual hub that attracts an increasing number of visitors to the site of the 77-foot bronze idol.

“I’m grateful to the Goa Government and to Minister Rohan Khaunte for ensuring that all the digital arrangements are in place ahead of tomorrow’s grand ceremony. This initiative brings the much needed digital infrastructure to rural areas and I appreciate the effort taken to support the Math and the community, “ said His Holiness, Paramapoojya Shreemad Vidyadheesh Teerth Shreepad Vader Swamiji.

“The deployment of WiFi access points and surveillance infrastructure at the Math reinforces our commitment towards strengthening Goa’s digital backbone. While it will seamlessly support the immediate needs of the celebrations, its benefits will extend beyond, impacting the local community for years to come. This infrastructure will enhance the experience for devotees and tourists alike, helping the State grow as a key spiritual tourism destination,” said Shri Rohan Khaunte, Hon’ble Minister of IT, Electronics and Communications.

The digital infrastructure is being deployed through Infotech Corporation of Goa Ltd, the implementation agency for the project. The new WiFi access points offer speeds of up to 10Gbps, with seamless login options via SMS or WhatsApp. Out of the 100 plus hotspots installed, 57 are permanent, benefitting residents and devotees beyond the celebrations. The remaining are temporary additions for managing the peak footfall during the grand Sardha Panchashatamanotsava celebrations.

Additionally, 240 CCTV cameras are being installed across the Math, some of which are also equipped with advanced AI capabilities and can monitor headcount and identify habitual offenders based on the data provided by the police personnel. Out of the total installations, 80 cameras are permanent, ensuring continuous surveillance, improved public safety and effective crowd management throughout the year.

With this initiative, DITE&C continues its efforts to extend reliable digital services to every part of Goa, ensuring that even rural areas and high-footfall spiritual hubs benefit from connectivity solutions.
