The recently concluded Goa Zilla Panchayat Election 2025 saw a significant participation of over 200 candidates from various political parties and independent contenders competing for the 50 seats in Goa. The ongoing vote counting process is expected to have a substantial impact on the political landscape of the coastal state leading up to the 2027 Assembly elections. Goa recorded an impressive voter turnout of 70.81% in the Zilla Panchayat elections, with more than 226 candidates contesting across 50 constituencies. The BJP, Congress, AAP, Goa Forward Party (GFP), and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) were among the key contenders in the election.
The counting of votes for the Goa Zilla Panchayat Election 2025 will began at 8 am! A voter turnout of 70.81 per cent was recorded in Goa. The polling took place on all 50 seats across the coastal state, with over 8.68 lakh people (4.20 lakh male and 4.48 lakh female) eligible to exercise their franchise, according to the Goa State Election Commission (SEC).
The State Election Commission (SEC) arranged a total of 1,284 polling booths for the election, with 658 in North Goa and 626 in South Goa. It is worth mentioning that electronic voting machines (EVMs) were not utilized during the voting process; instead, traditional ballot papers were used.
The voter turnout in North Goa was recorded at 72.66%. The voter turnout in South Goa was recorded at 68.93%.
During the Zilla Panchayat elections, incumbent MLAs actively participated in campaigning, viewing it as an opportunity to strengthen their power within their Assembly segments. Interestingly, aside from nine existing Zilla Panchayat members, most candidates running in the elections are newcomers, introducing a sense of novelty and uncertainty to the electoral competition.
In the upcoming Goa Panchayat elections, a total of 111 candidates are vying for seats in North Goa, while 115 candidates are contesting in South Goa. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has put forward 40 candidates, with the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) fielding three candidates and supporting seven Independents. The Goa Forward Party (GFP) has formed an alliance with the Congress party, with GFP contesting in nine seats and the Congress party contesting in 36 seats. Independently, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) have entered the race in the Goa panchayat elections 2025.
Authorities have implemented prohibitory orders requiring the closure of all restaurants, bars, tea shops, paan shops, and other eateries situated within a 100-meter radius of all counting centers. These restrictions will be in effect from 6 am on Monday until the conclusion of the vote counting process. Officials have cautioned that any breach of the prohibitory orders will result in severe penalties under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, as well as other relevant laws.
Vote counting is currently in progress for the Goa Zilla Panchayat elections, where more than 200 candidates representing different political parties and independent groups are competing for the 50 available seats. The State Election Commission (SEC) set up a combined 1,284 polling centers in Goa, with 658 situated in North Goa and 626 in South Goa. In a departure from previous practices, voters cast their ballots using paper ballots for the Zilla Panchayat elections since electronic voting machines (EVMs) were not utilized.
During the panchayat elections, Goa witnessed a 70.81% voter turnout. The regions of Latambarcem in North Goa recorded the highest voting percentage at 88.29%, followed by Nagargao with 86.71% and Pale with 86.58%. The lowest voter turnout was recorded in South Goa’s Navelim.
The upcoming Zilla Panchayat election is seen as a significant battle between the BJP–MGP and Congress–GFP alliances. In addition, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) are gaining prominence as key competitors, increasing the competitive nature of the election.

As per the early trends North Goa’s Honda constituency is leading in postal ballots. Honda is witnessing a three-cornered contest in the upcoming Zilla Panchayat elections. The seat has candidates from all three major political formations, with Ayush Sitaram Kerkar contesting on the Indian National Congress ticket, Navso Govind Jadhav representing the Aam Aadmi Party, and Nilesh Shamba Parwar fielded by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The Goa panchayat election results are being broadcasted live, with the Raia constituency in South Goa embroiled in a competitive six-way battle during the Zilla Panchayat elections. The candidates in the fray are Rajeshree Rajesh Gaonkar of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Sahidnya Santosh Gaonkar representing the Goa Forward Party, and Tejashwini Gaonkar from the Aam Aadmi Party.
The Zilla Panchayat elections in St. Cruz constituency of North Goa are currently seeing a competition among four political parties. Initial results indicate that the Congress party is leading in the constituency. The candidates vying for the position include Kunda Vishnu Mandrekar from the Bharatiya Janata Party, Perpet Socorrina D’Souza from the Aam Aadmi Party, Radhika Rajesh Kalangutkar from the Goa Forward Party, and Radhika Krishna Korgaonkar, running as an Independent candidate.
