Maker’s Asylum Positions Goa as a Global Hub for Creative Innovation and the Maker Movement
Panaji, December 18, 2025: Goa’s emergence as India’s Creative Capital is being shaped by communities, creators, and technology-led learning spaces that celebrate imagination and innovation. Within this landscape, Maker’s Asylum has become a key contributor, bringing young innovators, global creators, and hands-on learning to Goa, and reinforcing the state’s ambition to build a future-ready creative economy.
From its makerspace in Moira, Maker’s Asylum has welcomed students, artists, engineers, and young problem-solvers from across India and abroad who come to Goa not only for its natural charm, but to build, experiment, and create. Over the last four years, more than 828 students from 15 countries, 150 schools, and 50 cities have travelled to the state to engage with its growing maker culture.
In 2025, ten cohorts of the Innovation School brought 150+ teenagers to Goa for immersive learning in robotics, electronics, fabrication, and product development. Their projects ranged from assistive devices to environmental robotics and AI-based sports solutions. Maker’s Asylum also holds the highest number of OSHWA-certified open-source hardware projects in India, underscoring its focus on accessible, collaborative innovation.
The Fellowship for 2026 will further expand this impact by supporting 100 teens from underserved communities across India to join a six-month hybrid Innovation School journey, where they will design and build solutions to real social and environmental challenges. Looking ahead, Maker’s Asylum is now inviting CSR collaborators and donors who see their mission and who believe in purpose-driven education to help expand full and partial
scholarships.
This December, Maker’s Asylum’s presence is being highlighted at the 10th edition of the Serendipity Arts Festival, where it is hosting an eight-day lineup of hands-on workshops, conversations, and maker showcases blending creativity with technology at Art Park, Panjim. By integrating maker culture into one of India’s leading multidisciplinary festivals, the programme is bringing Goa’s creativity-driven innovation to a diverse national audience till 21 December 2025.
The celebrations will continue on 28th December with the Make Break Create Festival in Moira, a day-long showcase of Goa’s creative energy featuring:
● Open House displaying working prototypes developed by young innovators
● Panel Talk on “Community & Cultural Spaces for Art, Innovation & Education in Goa”
● Workshops ranging from sound production and experiential food to DIY maker sessions
● Makers Flea Market featuring DIY products, upcycled art, and sustainable design
● Open Mic & Live Music celebrating local talent and maker-musicians
Maker’s Asylum’s work aligns with the vision of the Startup and IT Promotion Cell, Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications (DITE&C), under the leadership of Hon’ble Minister Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, whose efforts are driving Goa’s transformation into an innovation-led state. Their programmes bring global perspectives into local communities, encourage cross-cultural exchange, and demonstrate how Goa’s environment enables experimentation and new ideas.
