Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital Launches Exclusive Paediatric Liver OPD in Mapusa

Early diagnosis and timely liver transplantation can transform a child’s life – Dr. Lalit Verma

Goa, November 2025: Children in Goa suffering from complex liver diseases can now access expert care without travelling to Mumbai. Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mumbai has launched a dedicated Paediatric Liver and Gastroenterology OPD at Vision Hospital, Mapusa, operating on the second Friday and Saturday of every month from 9 AM to 12 noon.

This initiative aims to provide specialized paediatric liver consultations, advanced evaluation, and liver transplant guidance locally — ensuring that timely intervention and expert care are within reach for families in Goa and nearby regions.

“Many children in Goa present with prolonged jaundice, abdominal swelling, or failure to gain weight — symptoms that are often ignored but can indicate serious congenital liver disorders such as biliary atresia or other bile duct abnormalities,” said Dr. Lalit Verma, Associate Director – Paediatric Hepatology, Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mumbai.

“These conditions affect not only physical growth but also the child’s learning and developmental milestones. However, with timely diagnosis and appropriate management — including early liver transplantation when necessary — these children can live completely normal, healthy lives. The launch of our OPD in Goa ensures that parents have access to this specialised guidance right here in their own state,” he added.

At the Mapusa OPD, children will receive thorough assessments for liver disorders, including laboratory investigations, imaging, and, where indicated, liver transplant counselling. A team of senior paediatric hepatologists from Mumbai visits Goa every month to conduct these sessions.

“Many parents fear the word ‘transplant’, but early intervention often means that the procedure can restore normal growth and development,” Dr. Verma explained. “Through this OPD, our goal is to make expert consultation, treatment planning, and post-transplant follow-up accessible to every child in Goa.”
