Poriem MLA on demands for Waste Management, Science & Technology andd Revenue
Waste Management –

MLA Poriem Dr. Deviya Rane appreciated the decision of Hon. Minister Shri Babush Monserrate and Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) for engaging reputed and experienced agencies specialised in door-to-door waste collection for effective sanitation and waste handling in our villages.

The Panchayats of Poriem Constituency are collecting Garbage Tax from the residents. However, limited revenue is generated and since they cannot afford to engage the services of Agencies empanelled with GWMC, Daily Wage Labourers (DWLs) are hired to collect waste fortnightly using Panchayat owned vehicles.

I request Hon. Minister to kindly arrange to provide necessary financial assistance to support our economically weaker panchayats, which will help them to engage empanelled Agencies for effective garbage management, which will help in maintaining a clean environment.

Science & Technology –

I appreciate the proactiveness and efforts of Hon. Minister for Science & Technology, Nodal Officer, Mr. Deepak Parab and his entire team of Department of Science & Technology’s for processing the registration of Geographical Indications (GI) in Goa.

She mentioned that an application has been submitted to the GI Registry, Chennai for obtaining GI-tag for Sylvan Cashews (a premium variety of cashew nuts produced by GFDC’s own plantations in Morlem, Ponda, Quepem and Canacona).

Since the Dept. of Science and Technology is only responsible for the work of registration of GI-Tags, it would be advisable for the Government to engage a dedicated Agency or constitute a Board for the promotion, regulation, and protection of Goan GI-tagged products, in synergy with the Department of Science & Technology and key industry stakeholders.

She requested the Hon. Minister to kindly consider her suggestions to fast-track the procedure and to protect our rich cashew heritage.

Revenue –

· Amending the Goa Regularisation of Unauthorised Construction Act 2016 (ROUCA), permitting the regularization of construction on private lands, up to 1000 Sq.m in Urban & 600 Sq.m in Panchayat areas.

· Facilitating the process for repairs, renovation and/or reconstruction of houses shown in the survey plan before 1972 vide recently issued circulars.
