Temporary floating jetties proposed to strengthen beach safety: TM Rohan Khaunte

Porvorim; March 12, 2026: Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte stated that provisions have been made for temporary floating jetties at six locations along the coast of Goa as part of the new tender issued for the lifeguarding agency. The initiative aims to strengthen safety measures for visitors, with the floating stations enabling the quick launch of jet skis during rescue operations so that lifeguards can reach victims or persons in distress in a shorter time.

Speaking during the ongoing Assembly session, the Minister said that the provision was made keeping safety considerations in mind and to enhance the efficiency of lifeguards during emergencies in the water.

Responding to a point raised during Zero hour by Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas regarding the installation of temporary floating stations at various beaches, the Minister informed the House that based on views and comments received, the proposal has been withdrawn at two locations.

He further stated that for the remaining locations, letters have been addressed to the respective panchayats, fishing communities, and coastal MLAs seeking their suggestions before proceeding further.
