Porvorim, 14th February 2025 – The foundation-laying ceremony for the much-awaited 1000m³ sump with pumping arrangements at 20 Point Colony, Socorro, Porvorim Constituency was done at the hands of Hon’ble Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant and the Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, in the presence of Soccoro Sarpanch, Soniya Pednekar , PCE, Uttam Parsekar, Panch members and other Government officials. This crucial infrastructure project, initiated by the Public Works Department (PWD), Government of Goa, aims to enhance water storage and supply capacity in the fast-developing region of Porvorim.

The project, awarded to Aadhya Infrastructure, with an estimated completion date of February 3, 2026. The sump will be interconnected with the existing 650m³ Overhead Reservoir (OHR) to ensure a steady and improved water supply for residents of 20 Point Colony, Ambirna, Maina, Police Housing Society, Sainagar, and Alps Residency.

Speaking at the event, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, emphasized the state government’s commitment to strengthening Porvorim’s urban infrastructure. He stated “Porvorim has been witnessing rapid urbanization, leading to a surge in water demand. This 1000m³ sump will play a critical role in ensuring uninterrupted water supply to the residents of Socorro and nearby areas. The Goa Government is dedicated to implementing sustainable infrastructure solutions that cater to the evolving needs of our citizens. Through such initiatives, we aim to enhance the quality of life and promote well-planned urban growth.”

The project comes as a response to existing supply constraints, particularly due to the smaller 150m³ Ground Level Reservoir (GLR), which has been limiting water distribution and supply timings. Once completed, the new sump will significantly improve water availability in the region, ensuring efficient distribution and better service to residents.

The foundation-laying event saw the presence of local representatives, senior PWD officials, and community stakeholders, all expressing their support for this vital initiative.
