Goan Student Filmmaker Submits Short Film for Cannes
Goan student filmmaker Mario Pimenta has submitted his short film Act to Achieve to the Cannes Film Festival in the Short Film category, hoping for a selection at the prestigious event.
Act to Achieve is an experimental short that follows a boy haunted by a dream of destruction, serving as a metaphor for climate change and the urgency to take action. The film is a solo project, conceptualized, directed, and performed by Pimenta. While he primarily handled the filming himself, he sought assistance when necessary.
Pimenta originally created the film for another festival, but it was not selected. He hesitated before deciding to take a leap of faith and submitting the film for Cannes. The Cannes Film Festival, one of the “Big Three” major European festivals and among the “Big Five” globally, will hold its 78th edition from May 13 to 24, 2025. Submissions for the Short Film category remain open until midnight on March 3, while La Cinef—a category dedicated to student films—has closed its entries. Films must have been completed after June 2023 to qualify.
