Panaji, March 2026: Goa Governor Honourable Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju along with his wife Suneela Gajapathi Raju, recently visited the historic precinct of the Aguad Port and Jail Complex at Sinquerim, a 400 years-old heritage site that has been restored as a reminder of Goa’s colonial past, its region and its people’s fight for liberation.
“We were delighted to once again host the Hon’ble Governor of Goa, Shri Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, who was accompanied by his wife on this visit. As it was her first visit to the Aguad Port and Jail Complex, they spent time exploring the museum and engaging with the many facets of Goa’s history presented here. We look forward to more such opportunities to showcase Aguad’s rich history and heritage,” said Savio Mathias, VP Operations and Business Development, Aguad Port and Jail Complex.
The Governor and his wife were accompanied by a storyteller who guided them through the 17th-century heritage complex. During the visit, they explored the Aguad Interactive Museum and its various sections — The Land, The People, and The Struggle — which trace Goa’s freedom movement alongside everyday life under colonial rule, offering deeper insight into the region’s rich heritage. They also visited the cell where freedom fighter Ram Manohar Lohia was once imprisoned, now marked by his statue.
