Shri. Rohan A. Khaunte, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Government of Goa, says, luxury rail tourism also connects with our approach of attracting high-value travellers and encouraging them to explore Goa beyond conventional circuits.
Panaji, Goa, October 1, 2026: Marking a significant milestone in the state’s evolution into a premier global luxury hub, the iconic Deccan Odyssey luxury train rolled into Goa today, carrying 29 international travellers on a curated journey through India’s most regal landscapes. The halt in Goa is a part of Deccan Odyssey’s Maharashtra Splendour journey.
Long celebrated for its sun-drenched beaches and vibrant backpacker culture, Goa is rapidly redefining its identity to capture the world’s most discerning high-end tourists. The arrival of this legendary train underscores a deliberate, sophisticated shift toward premium, experiential hospitality, proving that the sunshine state is no longer just a holiday escape, but a world-class destination for elite global travel.
During the day-long curated itinerary, Goa showcased its diverse tourism experiences to travellers aboard the Deccan Odyssey’s Maharashtra Splendour journey, bringing together the State’s heritage, culture, cuisine, spice traditions and coastline. This luxury rail journey travels through some of western and central India’s significant cultural, heritage and natural destinations, with Goa forming an important experiential stop along the route.
Shri. Rohan A. Khaunte, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Government of Goa, said: “Goa’s inclusion in the Deccan Odyssey journey provides an opportunity to introduce discerning travellers to the many dimensions of our destination. Goa is much more than its beaches, and this itinerary brings together our heritage, architecture, cuisine, hinterland and coastline within a single experience. Luxury rail tourism also connects with our approach of attracting high-value travellers and encouraging them to explore Goa beyond conventional circuits. The opportunity is not only to bring visitors to Goa, but to encourage them to stay longer, discover more and engage with our heritage, culture, wellness, nature and local communities.”
Shri. Kedar A. Naik, Director of Tourism, Government of Goa, said: “The Deccan Odyssey offers a distinctive way of experiencing Goa by bringing luxury travel together with immersive local experiences. From our traditions to Goan cuisine and the coastline, the itinerary gives travellers a glimpse of the diversity that exists within the State. Premium travel experiences such as these complement Goa’s efforts to broaden its tourism portfolio and introduce travellers to its cultural, heritage and experiential offerings.”
Deepak Lotlikar, CEO, Travelsmith, said: “Luxury train experiences represent an important segment of high-value tourism, and Goa has significant potential within this market. We have seen steady growth, particularly in the Free Independent Traveller (FIT) segment. The Deccan Odyssey has three more journeys planned for the coming winter, with Goa as a key highlight and the final major destination on its itinerary. We expect several guests to extend their stay in Goa by a few nights, giving them an opportunity to explore its culture and heritage in greater depth or experience its growing wellness offerings. This creates an important opportunity to introduce luxury travellers to a Goa that goes well beyond its beaches.”
The association with the Deccan Odyssey adds another dimension to Goa’s premium tourism offering, connecting luxury travel with heritage, gastronomy, nature and local experiences. It also creates opportunities for travellers to extend their stay and explore the State at a slower pace.
