Hon’ble Minister for Tourism Shri Rohan A. Khaunte Reviews Progress of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Digital Museum
Nearly 60 per cent of the work on the project has been completed, with major civil work currently underway, says Hon’ble Minister for Tourism Shri Rohan A. Khaunte
Ponda, Goa, September 28, 2026: Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte today inspected the ongoing construction of the upcoming Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Digital Museum at Farmagudi, Ponda. He was accompanied by Shri Kedar Naik, Director of Tourism, Shri Kuldeep Arolkar, Managing Director, Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), along with the Chief Engineer, consultants and project engineers.
During the inspection, the Minister reviewed the progress of the ongoing works and held discussions with officials and engineers. He emphasised the need to ensure that every aspect of this heritage project is carefully checked and that the work is completed within the stipulated timeline.
Speaking during the inspection, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte said, “Goa’s tourism story cannot be limited to its beaches; it is equally about our history, heritage, culture and the stories that connect generations. The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Digital Museum at Farmagudi is an important step in taking tourism beyond beaches and bringing our rich heritage to the forefront. With support from the Centre and the State, we are developing this project as a tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s naval, administrative and military contributions, and facilities that will make it accessible and engaging for visitors and our youth. Nearly 60 per cent of the work has been completed, and we are working to complete and inaugurate it in November. Our objective is to create tourism experiences that preserve our heritage, respect the sentiments of our people and showcase Goa’s deeper historical and cultural identity to the world.”
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Digital Museum is being developed as a landmark digital museum that will celebrate the life, leadership and enduring legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj through technology-driven storytelling and immersive visitor experiences. The project will include a fort experience, sound-and-light show and Digital Museum, showcasing his naval, administrative and military contributions. A statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj will also be installed above the structure, while the existing statue at the site has been carefully preserved.
Shri Kedar Naik, Director of Tourism, said, “The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Digital Museum is a milestone in our effort to diversify Goa’s tourism beyond beaches. We are tracking progress closely to ensure this immersive cultural experience meets its timeline, offering youth and global visitors a deep dive into our rich heritage.”
The project is being developed as an important tourism destination as part of Goa’s vision of taking tourism beyond beaches and bringing history and heritage to the forefront. Once completed, the museum is expected to emerge as a major cultural landmark, further strengthening Goa’s heritage tourism offerings and contributing to the State’s growing portfolio of cultural tourism attractions.
