India’s UPI processes nearly 81 lakh crore rupees transactions in April-July; surpasses world’s leading digital payment platforms

India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has outperformed the world’s leading digital payment platforms by processing nearly 81 lakh crore rupees worth of transactions in the April-July period this year, marking a remarkable 37 percent increase year-on-year.

Recent data from global payments hub Paysecure reveals that UPI processed 3,729.1 transactions per second, showcasing a significant 58 percent surge compared to the 2,348 transactions per second recorded in 2022. This growth has enabled UPI to surpass China’s Alipay, Paypal, and Brazil’s PIX in terms of transaction volume.

In July, UPI transactions reached an all-time high of 20.6 lakh crore rupees, maintaining transaction values above 20 lakh crore rupees for three consecutive months. This data highlights the growing popularity and efficiency of India’s UPI platform in the digital payments landscape.
