Iron Footbridge at Junaswada-Mandrem to Be Repaired Before Upcoming Tourist Season: Assures Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte
Porvorim, 22nd July, 2025 – Hon’ble Tourism Minister Shri Rohan A. Khaunte has assured the Goa Legislative Assembly that repairs of the iron footbridge at Junaswada-Mandrem will be completed before the onset of the upcoming tourist season.
The assurance came in response to a Calling Attention Motion moved by Mandrem MLA Shri Jit Arolkar, who raised concerns over the hardships faced by locals and tourists due to the dilapidated condition of the bridge.
Although the footbridge was completed in 2021, it has since deteriorated, impacting daily commute, particularly for residents of Junaswada and surrounding areas. This has resulted in restricted access to Mandrem Beach, a popular tourist destination, affecting the local tourism economy and livelihoods dependent on seasonal visitors. The repair and completion of the iron footbridge is expected to restore seamless access to Mandrem Beach, significantly ease the movement of residents and tourists.
