
LOKOTSAV-2025 (National Level Falk Festival) 17 to 26 January 2025
Government of Goa, Directorate of Art & Culture will be presenting a beautiful mixture of Folk forms & Handicrafts from all over India at the yearly (Folk festival) Lokotsav-2025 to be organized from 17 to 26th Jan. 2025. The Festival will be held at Darya Sangam, Kala Academy, Goa. Around 600 Folk artists will be presenting various folk dances and music of their states and also around 1000 craft persons will be displaying their Handicraft items during the festival period.
In this regards the Directorate of Art & Culture and other collaborative agencies cordially invites the art lovers, tourists and general public for the inaugural function of the said festival on 17th Jan. 2025 at 6.00 pm. at Darya Sangam, Kala Academy. Dr. Pramod Sawant, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa will be the Chief Guest, Shri Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Hon’ble Member of Rajya Sabha, Shri Govind Gaude, Hon’ble Minister for Art and Culture, Dr. V. Candavelou, (IAS), Chief Secretary Govt. of Goa, Shri. Rohit Monserrate, Mayor, Corporation of the City of Panaji, Secretary Art and Culture will be the Guest of Honour. Shri. Furqan Khan, Director, West Zone Cultural Centre, Udaipur and Shri Sagun R. Velip, Director Art and Culture will also grace the function.
Thematically designed stage will be the special attraction of the festival. This folk festival is being organized by the Directorate of Art & Culture, Govt. of Goa every year in joint collaboration of West Zone Cultural Centre, Udaipur, Kala Academy, Goa, Sports Authority of Goa and Corporation of the City of Panaji. A perfect platform is given to the artisans to showcase and sale their craft. This is 24 year of Lokotsav in Goa and day by day its popularity is increasing rapidly. The folk artists and craftsman from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Assam, Manipur, Haryana, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Sikkim, Tripura, Jammu Kashmir, Kerala including Goa are invited to present the folklore of their respective states in Lokotsav- 2005.
Around 20 folk groups from Goa will be performing various Goan folk dances like Ganesh Vandana, Kunbi, Jugor, Dekhani, Veerbhadra, Tonya Khel, Mussal, Lamp Dance, Dhangar Dance, Ghodemodni, Goff, Mando, Talgadi, Moralo etc, on different days.
The artists from other states will perform the folk dances and Music like Manganiyar, Kalbelin, Bhavai, Chari Nrutya, Baluurupio and Puppeteers from Rajasthan. Biha dance will be performed by Aasam artists. Mewasi, Siddhi Dhamal & Garba from Gujarat. Pung Dhol Cholam, Thangtu by the state of Manipur. Purulia Chhau, Natua Nrutya and Raihenshe by West Bengal. The state of Maharashtra will present Lawni and Powada. Ghumar Phag of Haryana will be presented. Gotipua from Odisha. Dheendhiya from Uttar Pradesh, Dholukuntha frum Karnataka. Total around 600 folk artists will showcase their talent during this maga festival.
Around 550 stalls will exhibit handicraft items from different states which includes Bandhani, Kathputali, Lakh Bengals, Leather bags Leather foot wares, Khadi, Kotha and Silk materials, handmade garments, Carpets, Glass wear, Clay art, Furniture, Wooden Toys, block print. Appliqué work as well as Goan crafts will be displayed for sale.
The Goan people will also be able to enjoy the taste of the traditional food of Rajasthan, Gujrat, Haryana, Maharashtra including Goa from 10.00 am. to 10.00 p.m. from 17 to 26 Jan. 2025.
The Cultural programme will be held every day during the festival where various folk dances/ music will be presented from 6.30 p.m. 9.30 p.m. exhibition will be open for the public from 17 to 26 Jan. 2025 from 10.00 am. to 10.00 pm.
A special “Tribal Craft Mela” from 17th in 26 Jan. 2025, showcasing the tribal craft and cuisine will be organized in collaboration with Directorate of Tribal welfare, Goa, Tribal Research Institute, Goa and Ministry of Tribal Affaires, New Delhi. This craft mela will be a special feature during the national level folk festival.
The painting and sculpture exhibition of Goan artists will be at display in the Art Gallery of Kala Academy in commemoration of Centenary birth year celebration of “Dr Manohar Rai Sardesai” and “Dnyanpeeth Awardee Ravindra Kelekar” renowned writers of Goa.
A craft workshop on Mollela – a traditional terracotta art of Rajasthan will also be organized in collaboration with WZCC, Udaipur for the benefit of general public and art lovers from 20 to 24 Jan. 2025 from 2.30 to 5:30 p.m. Goa. Interested applicant can enroll for the same.
