
Meeting of the Goa Waste Management Corporation by CM Dr. Pramod Sawant
Panaji, 15 January 2025: Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant chaired a meeting of the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) at Mahalaxmi, Altinho, Panaji, in the presence of Revenue Minister Shri Atanasio Monserrate and GWMC Board Members. The meeting facilitated productive discussions and key decisions aimed at strengthening waste management initiatives in Goa.
Key outcomes included the approval of the E-Waste Policy 2024, reaffirming the state’s dedication to sustainable waste management practices. The Board also resolved to hand over 5,000 square meters of land, along with two existing sheds at Kakoda IDC in South Goa, previously utilized by GWMC as a Material Recovery Facility (MRF), to the Goa Handicraft, Rural and Small-Scale Industries Development Corporation Ltd.
GWMC announced the development of a Massive Online Open Courseware (MOOC) to train stakeholders across Goa and India in waste management practices.
A notable achievement highlighted was the revenue of ₹38,56,515 earned through the auction of vehicles and metal waste, showcasing GWMC’s efficiency as the nodal agency. Additionally, the Corporation decided to float new tenders for the collection, transportation, and segregation of solid waste, including non-biodegradable and dry waste.
Approval was granted for allocating land to GAIL for establishing a 150 tons per day wet waste processing plant, further enhancing the state’s waste management infrastructure.
The Government of Goa remains steadfast in its commitment to strengthening waste management systems by adopting advanced technologies, modern equipment, and innovative practices to ensure sustainable and efficient waste management across the state.
