Minister Khaunte’s Hoists the National Flag on 78th Independence Day Ceremony at Mapusa Deputy Collector Office
Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte led the 78th Independence Day celebrations with a dignified flag hoisting ceremony at the Deputy Collector’s Office in Mapusa. The event saw the esteemed presence of MLA Calangute, Shri. Michael Lobo, government officials, local dignitaries, citizens and students who gathered to honor the nation’s freedom. Minister Khaunte hoisted the tricolor after the stirring notes of the national anthem, evoking a profound sense of patriotism among those present.
Renowned veteran stage artists and accomplished sportsmen were honored by Minister Khaunte and MLA Lobo during the event. Earlier, after hoisting the national flag, Minister Khaunte inspected the parade featuring Goa Police and NCC cadets from various schools. Following this, students from schools in the Mapusa area presented a cultural performance showcasing India’s diversity.
In his address, Minister Khaunte began by reciting a Sanskrit shlok and saluting the national flag, emphasizing the significance of Independence Day. He affirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to tourist safety and security, ensuring that it remains a top priority. To boost tourist footfall in Goa, he highlighted key initiatives like the Dabolim and Mopa airport connectivity. He also announced that work on the Old Goa Exposition is set to start with an investment of ₹16.50 crores, marking a significant step in preserving and showcasing Goa’s cultural heritage. Upholding the principle of Atithi Devo Bhava, the government is dedicated to maintaining and celebrating the state’s rich cultural traditions, culture and heritage.
Minister Khaunte further announced the connectivity, along with 75 WiFi hotspots, of which 65 have already been finalized, offering an additional boost to connectivity efforts. He emphasized the need to develop Goa in line with the vision articulated by renowned poet Balakrishna Bhagwant Borkar popularly known as BAKIBAB, in his poetry.
Minister Khaunte highlighted the Ekadash Teerth Circuit, designed to boost spiritual tourism in Goa. He also emphasized that the proposed Tourism Bill 2024 includes strong provisions for tourist safety and security, further supported by the 1364 Helpline, which operates 24×7 to address any safety concerns. The Double Engine Government is advancing rapidly towards the goal of Viksit Bharat, Viksit Goa by 2047, with a focus on developing world-class infrastructure in the tourism sector.
