‘OPERATION ABHYAAS’ CIVIL DEFENSE MOCK DRILL HELD IN GOA

Panaji, May 07, 2025: The State witnessed ‘Operation Abhyaas’ as part of the nationwide Civil Defence preparedness initiative carried out across the country at 244 locations. Both districts of Goa, North and South Goa were part of the drill. The Civil Defense Mock Drill was held in North Goa at Indian National Watersports Centre, Miramar, Panaji Ferry Wharf and M/s Goa Glass Fibre Ltd, Colvale, Bardez.

Held in accordance with the directions of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India, the mock drill was held across the country in view of the tense situation created due to the recent terror attacks in Kashmir. The drill helped authorities prepare various line departments, responding agencies and public in general to act in case a real life situation is encountered and also assess preparedness, response capabilities and inter-agency coordination during civil emergencies.

The situation for the mock drill at the Ferry Wharf was the collapse of the Mandovi Bridge and tested Departments and agencies in search and rescue operations, evacuation plans, mass casualty management with the involvement of Civil Defence volunteers among others.

The operations in North Goa were supervised by the District Collector, North Goa, Smt. Yashashwini B, IAS in coordination with Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Health Services, National Cadet Corps, National Social Service, District Disaster Management Authority, North Goa, Civil Defence Volunteers and other allied response agencies.
