Pankaj Prabhu Narvekar Achieves Historic Milestone as First Goan to Summit Mount Everest

Pankaj Prabhu Narvekar, an engineer employed by the public works department (PWD) and residing in Porvorim, has made history by becoming the first person from Goa to successfully summit Mount Everest. This remarkable achievement took place on May 21st at 5:30 am.

Since 2015, Pankaj Prabhu Narvekar, who serves as an assistant engineer at PWD, has also conquered other challenging peaks including Mt Kamet (7750 meters) and Mt Kang Yatse-I and II, which are located at elevations of 6,400 meters and 6,250 meters respectively.

In addition, Pankaj Prabhu Narvekar’s daughter Gunjan, a teenage mountaineer, has also made significant accomplishments in the field of mountaineering. She recently set multiple records by scaling three peaks above 6,000 meters in the Markha Valley of the Ladakh region in a remarkable time frame of just 62.5 hours.

“A proud moment for Goa as Pankaj Narvekar becomes the first Goan to climb Mount Everest! Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Pankaj for a bright future. This achievement shall inspire young mountaineers from the state,” said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant congratulating the engineer, on X, formerly Twitter.

Last year, Pankaj and his daughter Gunjan had become the youngest team from Goa to finish the Everest base camp in Nepal.
