SRL states that difficult decison taken after exhausting all options

Panaji, July 27, 2025 – SESA Resources Limited (SRL) clarified that it had been financially supporting the workforce at its erstwhile Surla mines since 2018,when mining operations were halted following the directive of the Hon’ble Supreme Court reflecting SRL’ long-standing commitment to its workforce.

With mining leases of the Company now allotted to other companies through the auction process led by the State of Goa, SRL no longer holds operational control or authority over these leases. This marks a significant transition, not just in ownership, but also SRL’ ability to maintain a workforce where no business activity is possible.

As part of SRL efforts to support impacted workmen, a Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) was also rolled-out, designed to provide financial support and time for exploring new employment opportunities to our workmen. 19 workmen had availed of the facility.

With no further scope for re-deployment within SRL, the company was left with no other option but to conclude its engagement with the workmen through a formal process in line & compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. All mandated dues have also been cleared in respect of the 84 retrenched workers.

SRL acknowledges the collective and sincere appreciation and deep respect for our colleagues and remains committed to being a responsible corporate citizen and will continue to look for ways to contribute positively to the communities we have long served.
