Students of VVM’s Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law Advocate for Accessibility Improvements at Bus Stops across Goa

Students of VVM’s Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law under Project Saksham submitted a representation to the Chief Secretary, Directorate of Transport and Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited highlighting lack of accessibility at bus stands and bus stops across Goa under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.

As part of the initiative, student volunteers conducted field inspections and accessibility assessments at various Bus stands and Bus stops across Goa

The assessment revealed major deficiencies such as absence of proper ramps, lack of tactile paving for visually impaired persons, unsafe entry and exit pathways, inaccessible seating arrangements, absence of Braille and accessibility signage, lack of audio announcement systems, poor maintenance, and non availability of barrier free infrastructure

The students urged authorities to undertake immediate measures to improve accessibility before the monsoon season.

The initiative was undertaken under Project Saksham headed by Coordinator Assistant Professor Sapresh Devidas and Co Coordinator Assistant Professor Akanksha Gehlaut. under the leadership of Officiating Principal Dr. Maria Goretti Simoes. The representation was submitted by student volunteers Sayed Muskan, Milca Mathilda Fernandes, Steven Fernandes, Mariam P. George, Jitisha Jitendra Patekar, Johan Rodrigues and Ophira Jeneya Costa.
