The Department of Tourism to Take Strict Action Against Indiscipline by Tourists; Enforcement on Beaches to be Strengthened
Porvorim, 10th March 2026 – The Department of Tourism has taken serious note of certain instances of unruly behaviour by visitors with foreign tourists on Goa’s beaches and has reiterated that strict action will be taken against anyone found violating public decorum or causing inconvenience to others.
Hon’ble Tourism Minister Shri Rohan A. Khaunte stated that while Goa welcomes tourists from across the country and the world, irresponsible behaviour will not be tolerated. In recent times, authorities have observed instances where some young tourists visit beaches and create inconvenience for others, including approaching foreign visitors for selfies and engaging in behaviour that disrupts the peaceful environment.
“I have discussed this matter with Hon’ble Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, and steps are being taken to strengthen enforcement, including deploying additional police personnel on beaches through the Tourism Police Unit (TPU) in coordination with the respective police stations. Continuous action is being taken and arrests are being made wherever necessary,” said *Hon’ble Tourism Minister, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte* .
Emphasising that Goa’s image as a responsible and welcoming tourism destination must be preserved, the Minister added, “Goa welcomes every visitor with warmth and hospitality, but this cannot be mistaken for a lack of discipline. Any behaviour that disrespects fellow tourists, inconveniences visitors, or disrupts public order will invite strict action. We are committed to ensuring that our beaches remain safe, respectful, and enjoyable spaces for everyone.”
The Minister further informed that the government has also asked authorities to increase the presence of women constables as part of the Tourism Police Unit to further strengthen safety and security monitoring across key tourist areas.
The Department of Tourism reiterated that Goa remains committed to ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors while safeguarding the dignity of locals and international tourists alike. Visitors have been urged to enjoy the destination responsibly and respect local laws, culture, and fellow travellers.
