
Vedanta Iron and Steel Limited Recognised by MPA for Highest Export Cargo Handling
Goa, 01 Jun 2026: The River Fleet Shipping Division of Vedanta Iron and Steel Ltd. (VISL), a leading ferrous resource company with operations spanning across India & Africa, was felicitated by Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) at the MPA Excellence Awards 2026 for handling the highest tonnage of cargo by an exporter during Financial Year 2025–2026.
The recognition was conferred during a special ceremony organized by Mormugao Port Authority, which recently recorded a landmark performance in FY 2025–2026 by achieving the highest growth rate of 15.91% among all 12 Major Ports in India and registering its highest cargo handling of 21.01 Million Metric Tonnes (MMT) in the last five years.
The award ceremony was graced by Chief-Guest Smt. Bela Meena, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Hubballi Division, South Western Railway, Shri Bipin Kumar Upadhyay, IRS, Commissioner of Customs, Goa, was the Guest of Honour for the occasion. The ceremony was also attended by Dr. N. Vinodkumar, Chairperson, Mormugao Port Authority, Shri Vinayaka Rao, Deputy Chairperson, MPA, along with senior officials from the maritime, logistics and mining sectors.
The award on behalf of VISL’s River Fleet Shipping Division was received by Mr. Nitesh Samant, CEO – River Fleet Shipping Division, VISL alongside Mr. Rajan Dhuri, Head-Shipping Operations MPT, Pravin Shrungare Head-Transhipper Operations & Maintenance, Sandeep Satardekar Head-Barge Operation & Maintenance amongst other officials from the company.
VISL’s achievement reflects the strength of its integrated logistics strategy, where maritime operations play a key role. By leveraging inland waterways through its River Fleet Shipping Division, supported by transhipper and barge operations, the company has created a seamless logistics framework that enhances efficiency, reduces reliance on road transport, and lowers emissions. This integrated approach not only strengthens VISL’s export performance but also underscores its commitment to sustainable and future-ready logistics.
