Vijai Sardesai’s Support for Rahul Gandhi’s SIR Allegations Raises Serious Questions
The Goa Forward Party’s decision to endorse Rahul Gandhi’s allegations regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is disappointing and reflects a growing tendency within the Opposition to question democratic institutions whenever electoral outcomes do not suit their political narrative.
The Election Commission has stated that the Special Intensive Revision is being conducted across various states to update electoral rolls, remove duplicate, shifted or ineligible entries, and ensure that eligible voters remain enrolled. The exercise involves door-to-door verification, publication of draft rolls, and opportunities for claims and objections.
If Shri Vijai Sardesai believes there are specific irregularities in the SIR process, he should present evidence before the appropriate authorities instead of blindly echoing Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of “vote theft.” Public confidence in democracy cannot be built on speculation and conspiracy theories.
What is particularly ironic is that Vijai Sardesai himself has been elected multiple times through the very electoral system he is now casting doubt upon. One cannot selectively accept election results when victorious and reject the process when politically convenient.
The people of Goa are intelligent, aware and fully capable of making their own choices. Any attempt to suggest that election outcomes are determined by manipulation rather than the will of voters is an insult to the democratic wisdom of Goans.
Goa Forward Party must answer a simple question: Does it trust the voters of Goa and the constitutional institutions of India, or has it chosen to blindly follow Rahul Gandhi’s narrative on SIR and electoral processes?
