Yusuf Hamied Chemistry Camp is being held at the CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Goa

The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), India, and the CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) in Goa are teaming up to host a special three-day Chemistry Camp for Grade IX students. The camp will take place from August 08 to 10, 2023, at CSIR-NIO in Dona Paula. The goal of this camp is to help students appreciate and understand chemistry better. It’s a chance for students from different backgrounds to explore hands-on chemistry activities and get inspired to study chemistry further, even at the university level.

This Chemistry Camp is a part of the RSC Yusuf Hamied Inspirational Science Programme, which is supported by CSIR-NIO and falls under the ‘Jigayasa programme’. More than 70 students from around 35 schools in Goa will be participating in the camp. The initiative has already successfully organized 48 similar camps in India since 2015. These camps have reached over 2500 students from various schools, including those from underprivileged backgrounds. The program also extends its support to teachers, with over 40,000 teachers trained through workshops.

The inspiration behind these camps is Mr. Yusuf Hamied, the non-executive chairman of Cipla, a pharmaceutical company based in Mumbai. The company, founded by his father in 1935, is known for providing affordable generic drugs for diseases like AIDS and Covid-19.
