57th Engineers Day celebrated by the Institution of Engineers (India)
The 57th Engineers’ Day was celebrated by the Institution of Engineers (India), Goa State Centre on the 14th September 2024 at Taj Vivanta, Panaji. The Chief Guest for the function was Prof. Dhirendra Katti, Director, IIT-Goa. The theme for the 57th Engineers’ Day in 2024 was ‘Driving Sustainability with Engineering Solutions Embracing the Latest AI-driven Technologies’. The key note speaker for the Engineers Day was Er. Ashwani Rawat, Co-Founder & Director at Transerve Technologies Pvt. ltd.
The Engineers’ Day is held every year to commemorate the birth of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, a renowned engineer and statesman considered the ‘Father of Modern India’, who was born on September 15th 1861.
The Chairman, IEI, Goa State Centre, Er. Anwar Khan welcomed the gathering and informed about the role of IEI in the development of engineering fraternity in this country. He also informed about the new technical university being started by IEI at Hyderabad. He gave a brief picture of the many advantages of being members of IEI. He gave the picture of the various fora of IEI which cater to various aspects such as safety, design, etc. The Honorary Secretary, IEI, Goa State Centre, Er. Siddhant Dubhashi gave a detailed presentation of the various activities carried out by IEI, Goa State Centre in the last one year.
Er. Shashank Shirvoikar, member the Executive Committee of IEI, presented a life-sketch of Shri. Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. The Chief Guest, Prof. Dhirendra Katti garlanded the portrait of Shri. Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. The Executive members of IEI, GSC were felicitated at the hands of the Prof. Dhirendra Katti for carrying out various activities in the State of goa in the last one year.
On the occasion of Engineers’ Day, two eminent engineers, Er. Dattaprasad Borkar and Er. Dilip Sahakari were felicitated at the hands of the Chief Guest, Shri. Prof. Dhirendra Katti for their outstanding work in the state of Goa. They were each presented with a shawl, Shreephal and a citation.
While delivering the key-note address, Er. Ashwani Rawat spoke about sustainability in Artificial Intelligence in all the spheres of working. He informed that our country was in the nascent stage as compared to the U.S., China and other Western Countries. He explained about the A.I. types as narrow intelligence, artificial general intelligence, and super intelligence. He deliberated on AI’s capabilities as it evolves—performing narrowly defined sets of tasks, simulating processes in the human mind, and performing beyond human capability. He deliberated upon the role of A.I in engineering which would be changing engineering processes completely by doing humongous design simulations which are impossible today.
In his address, the Chief Guest, Prof. Dhirendra Katti talked about sustainability at large which was needed to be started in our homes by performing small tasks which would lead to no wastage of commodities such as water, electricity, food, etc. He emphasized that each engineer should profess about sustainability at home to the younger generation and practice the same.
The Chairman, IEI, Goa State Centre, Er. Anwar Khan presented mementoes to the Chief Guest, Prof. Dhirendra Katti and the key-note Speaker, Er. Ashwani Rawat.
The Honorary Secretary, IEI, Goa State Centre, Er. Siddhant Dubhashi presented the vote of thanks. The programme was attended by about 125 members. Ms. Yogita Kharkanis compered the function.
