Goa Tourism highlights indigenous textiles, GI-tagged local products and authentic cultural experiences at the national festival in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat
Panaji, Goa | October 31, 2026: Goa Tourism showcased the State’s rich cultural heritage and distinctive traditions at the Bharat Parv 2026, being held at Ekta Nagar (Kevadia), Gujarat. A key highlight of Goa’s participation was the presentation of the traditional Goan Kunbi weave to the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, bringing attention to one of the State’s most distinctive indigenous textile traditions and its enduring cultural legacy. The Goa delegation, comprising Shri Rajesh Kale, Deputy Director of Tourism, and Shri Pravin Kumar Faldessai, Manager, Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), had the opportunity to interact with the Hon’ble Prime Minister and present Goa’s traditional Kunbi heritage. The interaction marked a proud moment for the delegation, highlighting the significance of preserving and promoting indigenous crafts that form an integral part of Goa’s cultural identity.
Bharat Parv 2026 was inaugurated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on October 30 at Ekta Nagar, as part of the celebrations associated with Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, commemorating the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Celebrating the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat, the festival brings together States and Union Territories to showcase their cultural traditions, folk performances, handicrafts, regional cuisines and tourism attractions.

Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, Minister for Tourism, Government of Goa, said, “Goa’s identity is deeply rooted in its culture, traditions and communities. The traditional Kunbi weave is a beautiful expression of our indigenous heritage, carrying the stories, skills and cultural identity of generations of Goans. Having the opportunity to present this heritage to Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modiji at Bharat Parv is a moment of immense pride for Goa. Through our Goa Beyond Beaches initiative and our commitment to regenerative tourism, we are working to bring greater recognition to our traditional artisans, indigenous crafts and cultural experiences. Our endeavour is to ensure that Goa’s heritage is not only preserved but also celebrated and shared with audiences across India and the world.”
The Kunbi weave occupies a special place in Goa’s cultural history. Traditionally associated with women of the Kunbi and Gawda communities, the distinctive checked cotton textile reflects the State’s indigenous identity, craftsmanship and traditional way of life. Its presentation at Bharat Parv highlights the importance of safeguarding traditional knowledge and encouraging greater appreciation for Goa’s living heritage.
Alongside the Kunbi weave, the Goa Tourism pavilion is showcasing the State’s culinary traditions and local products, including GI-tagged Goa Cashew (Kaju or Caju) and the traditional Goan sweet delicacy Khaje. These offerings represent Goa’s rich agricultural heritage, local craftsmanship and culinary traditions passed down through generations, providing visitors with a deeper understanding of the State’s cultural diversity.
Goa’s participation at Bharat Parv also reinforces the Department of Tourism’s efforts to position the State as a destination that extends far beyond its beaches. Through its focus on heritage tourism, cultural experiences, traditional craftsmanship, local cuisine and community participation, Goa Tourism continues to encourage travellers to discover the State’s lesser-explored traditions and authentic way of life.
