Goa Strengthens Tourist Safety Measures Ahead of Diwali Holidays and Peak Tourism Season Rush

Tourism Department and Goa Police reinforce coordination with hospitality stakeholders to ensure visitor safety, regulatory compliance and responsible tourism

Panaji, Goa | 31 October 2026: With Goa gearing up for the upcoming Diwali holidays and peak winter tourism season, the Department of Tourism and Goa Police are strengthening coordination with hotels, restaurants, clubs and other hospitality establishments to reinforce visitor safety, responsible tourism practices and compliance with statutory requirements. At a recent stakeholder meeting chaired by Director General of Police, Shri. Alok Kumar, representatives from the hospitality and nightlife sectors were sensitised to their responsibilities in ensuring a safe, secure and welcoming environment for tourists and residents alike. Senior officials from Goa Police and the Tourism Department also participated in the interaction.

The meeting focused on reinforcing safety and operational standards across tourism establishments, including the installation and maintenance of CCTV systems, keeping entry and exit points unobstructed, compliance with fire-safety regulations, responsible conduct by staff and security personnel, and adherence to prescribed noise limits. Stakeholders were also urged to remain vigilant against unlawful activities, promptly report suspicious incidents and extend full cooperation to enforcement agencies.

Special emphasis was placed on preventing online hotel-booking fraud, with hospitality establishments encouraged to remain alert to fraudulent booking practices and assist authorities in addressing complaints and protecting visitors from potential scams. The Tourism Department reiterated that visitor safety and confidence remain integral to Goa’s tourism experience, particularly as the state prepares to welcome domestic and international travellers during the winter season. Hotels, restaurants, clubs and other tourism-related businesses were encouraged to uphold high standards of service, safety and professionalism while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.

Shri Alok Kumar, IPS, Director General of Police, Goa, said, “The safety and security of every individual in Goa, including our visitors, remains a priority for Goa Police. As the state enters its peak tourism season, we are strengthening our preparedness and working closely with the Tourism Department and hospitality stakeholders to ensure that safety measures are consistently followed across establishments. Security cannot be the responsibility of law enforcement agencies alone. Hotels, restaurants, clubs and other tourism businesses have an equally important role to play by maintaining safety infrastructure, ensuring responsible conduct among their staff and promptly bringing any suspicious activity to the attention of the authorities. We encourage all stakeholders to remain vigilant, cooperate with the police and uphold the highest standards of safety and accountability. Our aim is to ensure that Goa remains a destination where tourists can travel with confidence and residents can feel secure.”

The Department further emphasised that responsible tourism requires active participation from all stakeholders. Hospitality establishments have been encouraged to regularly sensitise their employees and security personnel, maintain appropriate safety infrastructure and cooperate with authorities to address concerns promptly.

Goa will also host the sixth edition of IRONMAN 70.3 Goa on 1 November 2026 at Miramar, bringing together over 2,000 triathletes from 30 countries. The international endurance event, featuring swimming, cycling and running segments, further highlights Goa’s growing appeal as a destination for international sporting events and sports tourism. The successful conduct of such large-scale events also underscores the importance of coordinated efforts among the police, government departments, event organisers and other stakeholders to ensure participant safety, effective crowd management and smooth event operations.

Through continued coordination between the Tourism Department, Goa Police and industry stakeholders, the state aims to reinforce visitor confidence, safeguard local communities and ensure that the winter tourism season is supported by responsible hospitality, effective safety practices and regulatory compliance.
