Mumbai to Goa in just 6 hours via Konkan Expressway

The state of Maharashtra has been at the forefront of developing expressways to enhance connectivity within the state and with neighbouring regions. The introduction of new expressways has significantly reduced travel time, benefiting commuters and motorists alike.

In a bid to further improve transportation infrastructure, the state government has announced plans to construct a new expressway linking Mumbai to Goa. The proposed Konkan Expressway will run along the picturesque Konkan coast, offering travelers a scenic and efficient route.

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will spearhead the construction of the Konkan Expressway, a 376 km-long, 6-lane access-controlled highway. The project aims to provide a comfortable and seamless journey for commuters traveling between Mumbai and Goa.

Preparations for the project are already underway, with MSRDC commencing work on the detailed project report (DPR) for the Konkan Expressway. The corporation is in the process of obtaining necessary approvals from the Environment Department, ensuring that the project adheres to environmental regulations and sustainability practices.

A senior official from MSRDC has confirmed that the DPR will be finalized in alignment with the approvals received from the Environment Department. The Konkan Expressway is poised to be a significant addition to Maharashtra’s expressway network, facilitating smoother and faster connectivity between key regional hubs.

The Konkan Expressway will span the coastal region of Maharashtra, known as the Konkan region, connecting Panvel (Navi Mumbai) and Sindhudurg via Raigad and Ratnagiri. According to officials from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), the expressway will feature 14 interchanges along its route.
Reduced Travel Time from Mumbai to Goa

Once completed, the expressway is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Mumbai and Sindhudurg to approximately 6 hours, compared to the current 12-13 hours it takes by road.
Estimated Project Cost

Reports indicate that the construction of the Konkan Expressway will come at an estimated cost of Rs. 68000 crore. The project will require the acquisition of about 3,792 hectares of land, with approximately 146 hectares belonging to the forest department.
