Second Organ Donation of year 2025
In an extraordinary display of generosity, wife of 48-year-old staff member of Manipal Hospital donated his organs giving new hope to three individuals in desperate need of a transplant.
Tragedy struck when the donor suddenly collapsed due to a catastrophic brain hemorrhage and was rushed to Manipal Hospital, where he was declared brain dead. Amidst the devastating grief, the donor’s wife made a heart-wrenching decision choosing to honor her beloved husband’s memory by consenting to organ donation.
This heroic act triggered a meticulously coordinated effort between Manipal Hospital, the State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) Goa and transplant hospitals across the state and region.
SOTTO Goa allocated both donated kidneys to a 34-year-old male recipient at Healthway Hospital and a 42-year-old female recipient at Goa Medical College. There was no suitable recipient on the waiting list of Manipal Hospital which is also a registered kidney transplant hospital.
The Liver was allocated by the Regional Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (ROTTO) West to a 67-year-old recipient at Vishesh Jupiter Hospital Indore.
The selfless act of this donor family has illuminated the lives of three individuals, offering them a second chance at life. This remarkable feat marks the second deceased donor organ donation at Manipal Hospital, following the pioneering donation by Mr. B Sadashiv Rao’s family in 2018.
The seamless execution of this life-saving endeavor was made possible by the exceptional collaboration between SOTTO Goa, Manipal Hospital, Goa Police Traffic Cell, 108 Ambulance services, Airport officials at Dabolim and Mopa Airport.
Three Green Corridors were created to ensure the rapid transportation of the donated organs, demonstrating the unwavering commitment of SOTTO GMC to saving lives through organ donation.
This is consecutively the second organ donation of this year which will be an inspiration for more people in supporting the cause. Say yes to organ donation for it saves lives.
